What is a Guardian Home?

A guardian home dog is when the breeder has a breeding dog, either stud or female, and cannot keep said dog in their home. The guardian home is a loving home that cares for the dog as it would their own. Guardian provides quality dog food and shelter. The guardian home must be within 30 minutes drive from Oshkosh. Guardians are responsible for the dog’s training and safety – the home must have a fenced yard or underground fencing system. Training needs to begin as soon as puppy is old enough to enroll in training classes by a professional dog trainer. Costs for puppy training is guardian’s responsibility.

The breeder pays for all vet costs related to breeding as well as annual vaccinations. Guardian is responsible for administration and cost of monthly Heartgard and Nexgard as prescribed by breeder’s vet. When female is pregnant and/or nursing this preventative medication is not given.

Pregnant female will come back to breeder’s home about 5-6 days before their due date. Puppies will be born and raised with breeder. Female dog will remain at breeder’s home to nurse puppies for about 4-5 weeks, then return to the guardian home family.

Once the dog is retired from breeding, the breeder transfers full ownership over to the guardian. At that time the dog will be spayed/neutered before ownership transfer. Breeder will retire a breeding dog at age 5 and/or after 2-3 litters for a female.

If interested in being a guardian home for an Oshkosh Doodles puppy please complete a guardian home application. Breeder will review and if approved will set up time to meet and visit the guardian home with dog. Thank you!
